Okay, so the series with the Yankees, it is safe to say, did not go well. On the other hand, no-one was injured and the red sox are still in first place.
So... maybe it will all be okay!
but did it have to be a sweep? sniffle

So I pretty much
am feeling happy towards the Tigers. Nice Tigers. Good Tigers. So unspeakably awesome.
Otherwise, the White Sox, the not my Sox are good too. But I think the Tigers win for the evening.
By the way... for all the strife the Jones earns, he's actually statistically doing pretty well. Weirdness.
Reading Anna Karenina ( oh my goodness, WHY did I start reading a 930 page Russian novel when I am supposed to be reading John Locke, why??) and it's pretty wonderful 430 pages through. Terribly sad though, the problem is, I seem to be addicted. It is a wonderful book. Tolsky seems like a Russian Trollope, which I appreciate given the amount of Russian influence I encounter. Ooh, and "Czar" is just pretty sounding.
And if you thought the Red Sox's ceneter fielder Coco Crisp had an awesome name, try saying Coco Crisponov.
(Thus said the red sox fan after I decided all names would sound better with the Russian ending -ov. )

If I were a good little student, I would begin this blog by saying how tired I am of Locke, and how I have been reading copious amounts of him. As it is, I have only read 49 ish pages, and so cannot justifiably qualify for any of those positions. But I do like how pretty-academic the book looks anyways. :D
The Red Sox are staying in control fairly well, for which they get many props. Only a week (roughly) till August of Doom ends, and then it's time to get working on serious things like the play-offs.
....
I guess school also qualifies in that category come to think of it.
If I can figure out how to maneuver a school schedule, all will be well. :)
And piano's happy.

Discipulus Jonesus
Based on the Burglar's semi-ironic suggestion, I am compiling the the Discipulus Jonesus list, for the chief follower and servant of the Jones: Gagne. Obviously when I interceded not to have Jones on the holy Sox, someone decided it would be funny to send the next best thing. NOT FUNNY!
Now obviously the Discipulus is inferior to Jones, not only is he not a closer, just the setup man, he actually was very successful at one point. Keeping that in mind...
The criteria:
Must maintain an ERA in double digits
Must give up the lead, bonus points if it is after a brilliant comeback by the Red Sox
Following the bonus section of point two, the rest of the Red Sox must be playing at least semi- brilliantly.
Must give up at least two legitimate hits in the inning, or failing that, a home run.
He is only a new guy, obviously not a proven winner like
everyone's best friend The Jones, but hey, we can't all be THE guy, and all THE guys need sidekicks.

Hobbes Meets the Tiger's Fan (episode #207)
Hello!
WARNING: This post is not amusing or funny that I can tell. It could have been about Hobbes and his encounters with the Great Tigers Fan, episode 207 of Academic comics, only $ 5.99 each.
It is still about Hobbes and The Great Tiger's Fan.
Well last night was Torrey Academy Orientation (ha, Orientation spelling learned :D, how sad of me.) Anyways, it went well. After our hearts were filled with doom and dread, (and in my case the hyper academic perfectionist tension, heh) we got to hear a fascinating lecture by the Great Tiger's Fan. (are last names on the internet bad? The great one shall have to forgive his lack of specific title.)
Great lecture. If you have heard the Great Tiger's Fan, this is to be expected. Subject-wise, it was a lecture on the Epistemology of Hobbes. Essentially, it covered Hobbes's basic foundational ideas, and showed how they effected his writings and views. One thing that was rather striking about Hobbes, (this sounds like one of those fill-in-the-blank surveys now, maybe I am subconsciously filling out a survey that never existed, like the Not Hamlet in Mind of the Maker! That would be more interesting I think. ;) ) was his ability to not be bothered by certain things. In some ways, he sounds very steadfast and unyielding in his rules, and definitions, but inside this empire of thought, all sorts of vagueness is running loose. Does Hobbes find vagueness-within- so rooted in his main points that it doesn't bother him?
As to Hobbes though, he seems rather brilliant, and worth reading. (even if quite possibly wrong in some crucial points) I am excited. I enjoy government, please don't throw something at me. :)

The backyard- 8/12/07
Luminous panes shining on the ground,
Shattering, a thousand loose shards
Falling back now into place with hardly a sound
Translucent ice fading into blues and gold,
as on a whim or fancy
moving just a little more than the wind told.
The thick walls in contrast are stark, looking of white,
the sky a burnished blue
in company with the sky, the walls stand slim and slight.
Two trees stand as they were, blurred in the light
vivid in clarity
regardless of the thick smog and bleeding color of the night.

RE: Red Sox
So back to that baseball in August thing....
4 games ahead of the Yankees. I think I shall skip the "sniffle" part and just go right to weeping. This isn't good at all. Prediction: If this comes down to a Red Sox- Yankee series at the end of the season and the Sox lose the division I am going to be singularly angst ridden.
On the other hand, the Tigers aren't in much better shape, THOUGH they did win yesterday. Which was really cool. But the Central Division has all kinds of neat teams, like the Twins or the Indians. The Tigers are THE team of that division of course, but really, couldn't mlb spread the goodness out?
They could send a team to the AL West, so that I would actually have someone to root for! (though I kind of like the A's, I refuse to have anything to do with the Angels after one of their sport writers wrote a nasty article about my Sox. Actually, I didn't like them before that. Oh well.)
Or better still, they could send any AL team to the NL and we could have the novelty of a good NL team. Just think what it would mean for those Kansas City Royals! Well, actually, the NL seems to be slightly better than that currently. But they might as well let the Kansas City Royals represent them, because with slight exceptions, the NL loses anyways. And the Royals don't bunt. Television ratings would soar I'm sure. But as for the NL losing, the All-Star game never disappoints me in this regard, so perhaps their dedicated, steadfast bunting ways should be encouraged.
Hail Todd Jones. May your skills in a brilliant career of comedy never diminish, and may you never come to my team. Amen

Welcome to August Baseball
Welcome to August baseball, home of mid season explosions, near heart attacks for the loyal fan, and, usually a Yankee division title.
....
Wait. Why.does.that.happen.Spppppppppoccck!
Sniffle.
Really though, the Red Sox are only eight [quick check to mlb.com for stats..] 7 GAMES AHEAD??? What happened to eight? Do you see how tragic this is? Start 12 ish games ahead of the Yankees and end up at 7 by August 8th, AFTER beating Seattle 9-2. (Props to Josh Beckett)
Disloyal fan? Not at all. To the best of my knowledge, every fan either worries about the inevitable August collapse, or worries about getting back those 7 games before September. There is no good way to do this. But disloyal? Never, merely well grounded in the disenchanting truths of August.
The Month where Joy Ends.

Inklings Poem Assignment
unaffected by previous reruns
The piece unblemished, and thus unfound
About to be awoken in triumph of sound
Unaffected by the musician’s poor rage
Only time can correct these wrongs
And out of them perhaps find a song
Enthusiasm tucked out of sight
By working long throughout the night
The musician finds this soon come to an end
For family think sleep ought to become a trend
Finally the music becomes a whole
After having taken its arduous toll
The music is as it should be
And now to sleep the musician must flee

poetry
Little girl, all a twirl
dappled skirts all unfurled
Glitters in the sky,
with the petals on the ground-
her bright eyes~

Glitters in the sky,
with the petals on the ground-
her bright eyes~
